Empowering India's Homes : PM Modi Unveils 'PM Surya Ghar' Rooftop Solar Scheme

Prime Minister Modi recently unveiled an ambitious plan to light up over a crore of homes across India through renewable energy! The initiative launched under the title ‘The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana,’ is a rooftop solar scheme, which aims to equip a whopping 1 crore households with solar panels. 

This isn’t just about saving money on electricity bills, it’s a giant leap towards India’s goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2070.

Guide to applying for PM Surya Ghar –  Rooftop Solar Scheme

To APPLY for a rooftop solar scheme, head to the pmsuryaghar.gov.in website and click on the ‘Apply for Rooftop Solar’ option. Then, follow these steps for registration:

Step 1

Register in the portal with the following

• Select your State
• Select your Electricity Distribution Company
• Enter your Electricity Consumer Number
• Enter Mobile Number
• Enter Email
• Please follow as per the direction from the portal

Step 2

• Login with consumer number and mobile number

• Apply for the Rooftop Solar as per the form

Step 3

Before jumping in and installing a rooftop solar power plant, there’s one crucial step: getting feasibility approval from your local electricity distribution company, the DISCOM. Once you receive the approval, choose a reliable and registered vendor from the DISCOM’s list and install the solar setup.

Step 4

Once the installation is complete, submit the setup information and apply for a net meter.

Step 5

Once the net meter is installed and inspected by the DISCOM, they will issue a commissioning certificate through the portal.

Step 6

Once you’ve received the commissioning report, hop onto the portal and share your bank account details along with a cancelled cheque. Within a month, expect your subsidy to land securely in your bank account!
